Speckled Wood

The speckled wood butterfly (Pararge aegeria) has been spreading northwards from England probably assisted by global warming.
It was first recorded in Fife in 2014 and has since become well established.

I saw my first local one (Kirkcaldy, Fife) just 3 years later in April 2019.
I saw many more that year and again frequently encountered them in 2020.  This is my first one for 2021 and actually at a site over a mile from where I have seen any before.

This one was literally on the Fife Coastal Path just over a mile west of Kirkcaldy;
