Earth Day

Another blue sky day, cool in the morning but warm enough to run shirtless with Forrest in the early evening. On Earth Day, you could almost feel the life force churning in the soil, almost every tree now tinged with green as the buds open and come into leaf. Fiddleheads of bracken are also beginning to appear, heralding the transformation of the lower moor from a dull brown to a vibrant green. I was reminded how the very earth, the soil, is huge, complex, living biosystem. It's so easy to forget that.

If you want to do one little thing for Earth Day, go and watch Kiss The Ground, a documentary on Netflix. I've been surprised to find that it's not got as much publicity as it deserves - perhaps because it's more nuanced and optimistic than other recent eco-documentaries such as Seaspiracy. It's still a sobering watch but it also gives a sense of hope that the environmental catastrophe we're creating can still be turned around. And it all comes down to the very soil of this Earth of ours. It comes highly recommended.
