Last Supper

While we are getting some great blooms, this spring is proving difficult for some of the irises. If you look carefully, you can see the damage wrought by that little visitor; no mystery there. But there are more unusual problems with stems being sliced off close to ground level, and hordes of aphids that seem to be stunting flower growth. Some leaves are emerging all folded up like an accordion book, and some are rippled in other ways that I'm seeing for the first time. We don't have deer or rabbits; I'm thinking it's some kind of insect. Up til now I thought irises were bulletproof.

Rain is forecast for tonight/tomorrow. The hope is for enough to make a difference, while not damaging the roses, the irises or the fruit that is beginning to set.
