Special treatment

The first coot to nest has now hatched their chicks. There are five. The other four were off following one adult around the edge of the lake while this one took the hint and went back to the nest with the other adult.

It didn't really get very tender treatment as this photo leads you to believe. The adult spent a lot of time readjusting it's own feathers and the nest and the little one got quite a bashing during the process. But it really didn't deter the youngster. I'm sure the warmth and comfort it eventually got was worth it.
