Sadly not sharp due to using impractical lens

Well, that's my excuse.  The real answer is 'focus on the subject, not the gate, you idiot'.  And, of course, when I went back to take a properly-in-focus one they had gone, and were laughing at me from a distant corner of a field.  Next time I will focus more carefully.
