Isle of Whithorn

Super warm and mostly sunny day today. A tiny number of rain droplets have fallen upon us (or the car when we were in it), but basically it’s been dry. Before breakfast, we had a lovely wander at low tide in front of the hotel, and after breakfast we drove over to the Isle of Whithorn. It’s famous (well, to us) for being the place where, nearly twenty years ago, I accidentally got up after lunch in the Steam Packet Inn and walked out without paying. They came running after us. It was mortifying. After our cliff walk, we decided against trying to have a drink there because as far as we could see from across the harbour (with the help of photographic evidence) all of the tables set up outside were busy. So we drove back up the peninsula to Wigtown, and had a short bookshop wander and scones and coffee/tea there. Back at the hotel, there was no such pressure on the outside tables, so we were able to sit outside in the sunshine with a bottle of white wine. This also had the advantage of allowing me to drink. It felt very indulgent, but was great.

Our final dinner soon awaits. I’m trying to decide whether to have one of their huge steaks, or be sensible with some fish….
