About to turn

It'll be loud soon!

A trip to the landfill this morning, with time for a chai latte following that. W. and I worked in the garden after we got home and found evidence of the gathering brood of our 17-year cicadas: holes along the edges of the bed I was weeding, as well as dried soil plugs with holes in them. Since much of our soul is clay, these looked like miniature clay pots. Also, under Mrs. Tree, some crazy “aeration” of the lawn with dozens of small holes. The cicadas aren’t quite up yet, but they’re pushing towards the surface in preparation for crawling out. This was simultaneously exciting and a tad creepy, to realize there are vast numbers just inches below my feet. I'm certainly hoping to finish weeding and some mulching before we have to do it through a layer of cicada bodies.

The raspberries were part of lunch. Dinner tonight involved salmon and experimental pesto made after I harvesting our exuberant herb patch. Now listening to the raspy screech of a fox outside. Unsurprisingly, Felix's ears have perked up too.
