The Hotel New York on the Wilhelmina Pier in Rotterdam is a hotel , housed in the former administrative building of the Holland America Line (HAL). The hotel was opened in 1993.
In 1620 the Pilgrim Fathers fled from Delfshaven to America . Since a growing group of settlers and adventurers were traveling from Rotterdam to America. In 1873 the NASM was founded which was officially renamed to Holland America Line (HAL) in 1896. Until the turn of 1900, approximately half a million people had migrated. In the period 1901-1917, the building was built on the Wilhelmina Pier by architects Muller , Droogleever Fortuyn and Van der Tak . The solid block was somewhat lightened with Art Nouveau ornaments and, later, the two modest but characteristic turrets.
