Bookshelf sample

Continuing the SFF book samples theme. Naomi Novik's Temeraire series improves noticeably in the quality of the writing as the series progresses. Economies based on dragon transport with the dragons themselves as major characters. Tim Powers - my favorite of these is The Drawing of the Dark, set in Vienna. None of the rest appeal in the same way (though I kept buying them ..)

Much too warm out after 10.30 or so when I came in from leaf gathering. 30C in the afternoon.
