The rear of Tenterden’s platform starter

This signal is raised to permit a train to leave Tenterden Town station and proceed to the section signal protecting the single line to Rolvenden. It will be raised for the first time at 10.40 on 7th May to signal the departure of the first shakedown train of the year prior to reopening to the public on 22nd May. It’s looking very resplendent in its fresh paint.

We were in Tenterden to meet with the volunteer gardener and one of the commercial staff to discuss ideas for creating a nature trail for families which is based around Tenterden station. Lots of ideas to take away and turn into a practical activity. The working title is “Gardening for Nature Trail”

The nature trail will be part of a number of trails and walks based around the railway and in the town, giving visitors more things to do enhance their visit. It is also part of the railway’s ambition to be sustainable - after all we burn coal and people travel by car to get to the railway.

It was a very enjoyable morning too, with a visit from Susan’s friend Rosemary who we last saw in the flesh in September in Glasgow. Three hours or so of solid talking and much empathy and humour were the order of the day. We shall see her again in June as she’ll be with us in our week in the Lake District.
