Another Reason to Get Up Early

My little turkey friends are strangely silent this morning, but I have enough to do just standing here beneath the shimmering lacework from last night's spider activity.
We are packing up to go home. The camper passed the test. Everything works more or less as it's supposed to. We ourselves are not too creaky to move around in this small space. Neither of us, however, enjoys the actual driving. There is so much more traffic than we remember, especially giant speeding trucks, even on the side roads that we used to cherish. How clever we thought ourselves, finding blue highways before Google maps publicized every dirt trail ever carved from A to B. The thought of an extended trip is a little daunting, but we shall see.

The Extra is Altamont Pass, a windy and windy (ah, the English language) highway through the Diablo Range in northern California. If you squint you can see the glittering line of oncoming traffic; our side is pretty clear and everyone is behaving. It's as hot as it looks.
