A Fisherman cleaning his boat after being out checking his creels.
When we had a boat we would often go fishing, several times a week in fact. We just used hand lines and always competed against each other. We would catch codling and ling, clean it on the boat, then cook it that evening. Couldn’t be fresher. In the summer it would be mackerel, which were plentiful. We would clean them on the way in, then once we tied up, the smoker would get fired up and the smell of smoked mackerel would alert the other boat owners on the pontoon. Soon after they would arrive with buttered rolls from the bakers and we would all sit around and eat freshly smoked mackerel rolls. These were great times.
Although our boat wasn’t berthed here, but just along the road in Anstruther, just being around a harbour brings back lovely memories.

Today we just had a walk around town. Chatted to some visitors, or rather, Geordie did. He tends to get a bit of attention from people because they can’t work out what breed he is. He, of course, just laps up the attention, nuzzles into them and sniffs their pockets in the hope of treats.
I popped in to the Sweetie Shop to stock up on my favourites. We had passed several visitors with ice cream, so by the time I was tying Geordie up outside the shop he had almost convinced me to get us a cone each. He was so excited, but I was just too bloody cold to eat an ice cream. So he was a bit crest fallen when I came out. Poor boy.
Then it was home to do housework. Yuck!
I’m sitting here now with a glass of wine, which is probably helping the reminiscing.
