Camellia, bricks, cast iron, daisies and lavender

Today is Mother's Day in New Zealand. Daughter J invited us to a mid-day meal with C and her boys. We ended up leaving a little later than expected due to a long Face-time call from Tsuken (still in Sydney). He has had his Covid vaccination, but the so-called Trans-Tasman bubble has been cancelled due to some community cases. Unsure when we will be able to see them in the flesh.

It was a lovely family gathering with wonderful food from J. Just before leaving for home, I decided to take this photo of her front yard. The cast iron drain cover leads to a major stormwater drain so must remain uncovered and accessible, hence her intention to surround it with a circle of bricks. Mr H has offered to help her.

The camellia petals cover most of the lawn and also the windscreen of her car which is parked near the tree. In spring there was a grand display from the climbing rose and the philadelphus which intermingled.

On the photographer's side of the circle of bricks are a few daisies, giving a small burst of colour, while there are lavender plants beside the deck which is out of sight to the right..
