Old Trunks

Our garden had several trees a few years ago, but the owner had them felled one by one.  On learning of this, before we bought the place, we felt a little deflated: we hate to lose trees.  But it seems that the were huge, hailing from the time that the original farmland had specimen trees.  Two of them were much too close to the house or the garage (a large building in itself) and they were all diseased.  So they had to come down.

But there are plenty of trees in the surrounding fields and gardens, and the stumps remain as daffodil planters and are mostly surrounded with forget-me-nots.  It's a delightful scene.
