Heston Racer

I walked to a friend's house in Heston this morning, and passed this commemoration of the Heston Racer aircraft, outside the site where Heston Aerodrome was once located. Internet research reveals that this plane was built in the 1940s specifically for an attempt on the World Speed Air Record. Unfortunately there was an overheating problem during the test flight, and the idea was scrapped.
