A ruff day

Not my poor spelling but the species of bird illustrated here. For most of the year a fairly nondescript wader, it suddenly becomes quite spectacular as it enters the breeding season - at least the males do.
The island at presnet is just about as full of birders as birds. Everywhere you go in the NW corner of North Uist there are birders with telescopes and binoculars - along with much moaning about the wind direction.
Much easier to live here the whole year rather than worry about if you have come in the wrong week!
