Birds, mostly

Before my ex-next-door neighbour and I headed out for our walk, she kindly let me look out of her upstairs window to see the changes in my ex-garden now that the yew trees are down (in fact, one is still standing because the tree surgeons found a nest in it). I was very surprised how little I could see - it was a more private garden than I realised.

Under this bridge were twenty or thirty swooping swallows, all missed by the phone camera. Behind us was a cuckoo, missed by our eyes but surprisingly audible. We happened to be talking about 'dudek' at the time, which I learnt today is the Polish for hoopoe. She learnt that 'hoopoe' is the English for dudek.
