Wheatear

Thursday morning walk in Mugdock Country Park, dry but dull.

Spent quite a while watching these little birds on a mossy wall.
When we got home I found out that they are a pair of Wheatear, a summer migrant that arrives here between March and May to breed. The male is the more colourful of the two on the left hand side. Most start to leave in August and migrations take place mainly at night as they head back to central Africa for the winter (info from RSPB handbook of Scottish birds).
