A Meandering Life...

Abstract Thursday 307 :: AT307 :: Topsy Turvy

In this topsy turvy world its so good to have tradition to keep you grounded.

Northallerton has a good mix of shops, most locally or regionally owned with the big high street brands kept quite small. The big player in town is a department store that has its roots going back to 1882. It is owned by the 5th generation of the same family.

The flagship premises in the high street still sits where it started like a giant oak born from an acorn. It is run with tills within the store not at the exits, staff know how to interact with customers and even know something about what they sell.

My main Blip is their newer store which is within walking distance of the main store, it is well designed but holds all the key assets of the other. The wall art in extras is within the new building but firmly hints at its past.

Between the two stores they have at least 3 or 4 restaurants or cafes, I can see more visits will be in order once they open again...
