Rougement Castle

We dropped my car off at the garage for irs annual service and MOT and then walked into Exeter along part of the canal and then into the centre of Exeter. I haven’t visited Exeter for a long time, I think I last visited the Apple shop there about 18 months ago. We only visited one shop briefly and found a sunny brief spell to have our lunch in the park. Nearby is the gatehouse to Rougement castle built by William the Conqueror soon after 1066 as part of the Norman caste of Rougement so the blue plaque says. Apparently the gatehouse is the oldest castle building standing in Britain quite a claim to fame. We also spotted a heron flying overhead on our return and he dived on the path behind us, see extra, also an aquilegia which was in the park gardens. Unfortunately you now can’t walk from one park to another going under the castle arch as it must have been rendered unsafe as it’s all boarded up. My car passed it’s MOT OK and we got 20% off as we booked the service and MOT online.
