Another visit to the very picturesque Scar House Reservoir, built to supply 21 million gallons of water, per day, to Bradford.

We took refuge in a storm shelter for lunch - brilliant!

Construction here started in 1921 and took about 15 years to complete. Workmen began work at 7.30am and finished at dusk. A new village was built for the workforce and included;

Grocer, butcher, draper, newsagent & fishmonger
600-seat cinema
Canteen (sold off and relocated, now Darley’s Memorial Hall)
Reading and recreation room
Concert hall
Hairdresser
Library
Mission hall for Sunday services
Post office
Bank
Tennis courts, golf course and football club
School with 3 teachers and up to 90 pupils
Fire brigade with 18 firemen and a police constable
And .....
A chip shop
