‘An Old Clam Shell’

When I was very young, we lived near Boston, Massachusetts, in New England.

Just before we left for Edinburgh, we went to Cape Cod for the day. It was 1951 and I was not quite five years old.

My mother saw this large clam shell on the beach - it fits in the palm of your hand, see extra photo - and picked it up.

It came to Scotland with us.

The shell has somehow survived all these years, and today sits on the kitchen window - a reminder of that happy time.
