Joanna and I enjoyed another great walk this afternoon from the "Kirkmahoe Discovered" booklet. This wee book has given us such pleasure during lockdown as we have explored a small parish which is rich in interest - wildlife, scenery and archaeology.

Today's walk was to Lanrick hall, known in the 19th century as Lanarkhall, when it was a busy farm. Today it is a roofless ruin, but there are still the remains of things left behind by former inhabitants - the rusty frames of children's bikes, milk churns, cattle stalls, a mildewed jacket behind a bathroom door, an interesting drying cabinet (see extra). We sat in what was once the kitchen garden, drank our flasks of tea, and thought about the people who had lived here. Even in the Bronze Age, this area was well-populated. Now it is home to curlews and hares.

Today's walk: To Lanrick Hall with Joanna 4.74 miles
