Miniature cones

On April 3rd this year I posted a photograph of larch roses, little red growths appearing amongst the newly sprouting needles of a larch tree. I thought that they looked really pretty so did a bit of research about them and discovered that these are the beginning of new cones. Today, I walked past the same larch tree and had a look for the larch roses again, only to find that they had turned brown and were beginning to look like little cones. Isn't nature fascinating?
