Inspection

A year ago our solar panels were set up, connected to our battery and began generating electricity.

According to the monitor over a quarter of our consumption has been self generated since then: over the past month nearly 50%.

Because of planning laws the panels have to be set low so they can’t be seen from the street. Unfortunately, this reduces the efficiency of the panels. What would we get if they were raised?

Our installer was being inspected to check that his work was up to scratch so we had to make the roof accessible to them. It gave me an opportunity to get back up onto the roof and enjoy the views to the east - Berwick Law ( blip and extras of 16 April) can just be seen in the distance. To the south we have Liberton Kirk on the skyline. To the north the castle and the Forth with Arthur’s Seat to the north east. And to the west Blackford Hill. Maybe we should have built a panoramic room up there instead!
