King's Arms

This magnificent sign is attached to a not very remarkable pub on Newcomen Street.
It came "from the southern gateway on old London Bridge in 1760, when the gate was demolished. The sign was put at the time on a massive stone slab, incised with the words 'King St' and on its removal an opporutunity was taken to alter the "G II R" to "G III R". Thus keeping it up to date, although the practice was not repeated for the next George."
