All part of the story

Summer’s evening

No one fancied sitting by the fire in the rain at the tables covered in puddles.

Straight from Oban to Stirling on a farming errand, and then onto an appointment near Perth.

I had memories of the summer S and I first got together. I was setting up an exhibition of my photographs as part of the Dunkeld Arts Festival and S came to visit. It was sunny and warm, the Perthshire landscape was perfectly mixed - a patchwork of fields of ripening grain along the Tay, green pastures full of grazing cattle, wonderful sentinel trees along field margins and roadsides and heathery moorland and hill beyond. We stayed in a pub in Ballinluig one night, in the Sma Glen another night and had picnics in the sun when the work was done.

I had those thoughts in my head when I tried to book us into the Grantully Hotel for supper on our one night away. We couldn’t stay there as well as it was fully booked so I found us somewhere in Dunkeld instead. But instead of a lovely drive in evening sunshine, we have had heavy rain with huge puddles and floods across the winding roads with full speed windscreen wipers and lashing rain. Serves me right for being a sentimental dreamer!!

Our meal was mainly good although the friendly service was erratic and S couldn’t get his spoon through the pastry of his chocolate tart!

Looking forward to a relative long lie tomorrow. Next appointment is at 10am so we don’t have to leave here until 9am.
