Alnmouth

Friday 21st May 2021

The forecast wasn't good and it was wet when we got up but we weren't going to be deterred. I had bought a Treasure Trails route which started at Craster, took in Longhoughton and Alnmouth and finished at Warkworth. It gave a purpose to our day. We actually dodged the showers in the morning and managed to solve the clues.

We arrived at Warkworth ready for lunch but there was a large traffic jam which did not appear to be moving. After a while, like many others, we turned off down a back road, where we came across a picnic spot by the river. We got chatting to a resident who told us that a large lorry had got itself stuck on a corner in the centre of the village and couldn't move either way, therefore completely blocking all traffic. The back road became very busy for a while but then went silent again. We took that to mean the lorry had been removed so we went into the centre to complete our treasure hunt. Unfortunately the rain started then so we got a bit wet finding the answers to the final clues. One was a gravestone but the rain had made it impossible to read. We took an educated guess on that one.

We had an enjoyable day, especially considering what it might have been. The Treasure Trail made us go out for a walk and stay out longer than we might have done if we had just meandered in the rain.

The extra treats today:

27) Having fun together with the treasure hunt.
28) Picnic by the river
29) Seeing a heron on the river
30) Being awarded our Mini Explorer badges when we submitted our answer!
