Meeting the gaze

I've been looking forward to seeing Lynette Yiadom-Boakye at Tate Britain since before lockdown.

Not only does she make fantastic portraits but she is also young. At 43 she has accumulated a large collection of excellent work. I was expecting to enjoy the simplicity of her mark making but didn't expect the scale. Many of her works are superhuman in size. An extraordinarily confident painter.
