Roibert a Briuis

Richard II defeated David II of Scotland and pushed the Scots back as far as Edinburgh, burning down this Abbey as his army passed by. 

Over a hundred years of reconstruction followed.

Robert the Bruce's heart is said to have been buried in the church, perhaps brought back from a crusade with the body of Lord Douglas in either 1330 or 1331. The position was marked by a small metal plaque.
