Adam Viaduct

We passed this bridge on our morning walk, and as a matter of interest, it’s a Grade II listed concrete structure, built in 1946, and is the earliest pre-stressed concrete railway bridge in the country!
Previous to the new Southgate bypass being built, it was quite well hidden, but now has all the main road traffic from town passing under it.
It carries the Wigan to Kirkby branch railway line.
