Ferns, the masters of complexity

Remarkably, some species of ferns have over 1200 chromosomes. That's over 26 times more chromosomes than humans' 46! The world record holder for possessing the most chromosomes is the adder's tongue fern Ophioglossum reticulatum with 1440 chromosomes!
