Big mouth

This was the Barwon River at Brewarrina this afternoon. Plenty of water in the river, fed by rains to the north a month or more ago. Pelicans have moved in for feasting.

Under the water, visible only during more usual low water levels, are aboriginal fish traps. From 40,000 years ago people arranged rocks in the river bed to make it easier to catch fish. Some argue that these are the oldest intact human-made structures on the planet.
