Lathyrus Odoratus

Green Hairstreak

Last week I was pessimistic about reaching 25 butterfly species by the end of May as I had managed last year. Today's morning walk on the South Downs has propelled my tally from 20 to 24 with the addition of Brown Argus, Common Blue, Grizzled Skipper and Green Hairstreak on what turned out to be a 12 species walk.  In this individual the line of white dots that create the 'hairstreak'  on the underside of its hindwing is reduced to a single white dot.
