Sunset

I just had to share this beautiful sunset with you.

One sad fact about Thailand is the number of road accidents that result in death or serious injury. I don't know the exact figures but my research tells me that it is estimated that 19 - 20,000 will die this year, that's 26 a minute. What you don't expect is that somebody you know becomes part of these statistics. Sadly that has happened. An American who lived here with his partner lost his life yesterday. He was travelling on his motorbike to visit a friend, there were some road works and a large articulated lorry on the other side of the road. A car driver decided to overtake the lorry which meant he was on the wrong side of the road going way to fast. I leave the rest to you. One of the saddest things is that his partner was unable to see his boyfriend or retrieve his belongs because they were not married and there was no will. His family in America were contacted and they will make all the decisions. Same sex relationships are well accepted here but marriage is still not allowed. So sad.

Sorry for the sad story but it is part of the reality of living here. As a small community we will miss this rather loud guy, who also had a lovely side. Only a few days ago he and his partner had bought eggs to make up packages to distribute to the needy.
