Wound up in Wexford

Seed head

A rather lovely seed head, but I'm afraid I have no idea what the plant was.

We set out today to try to take a woodland walk.  We'd located Saltoun Big Woods a short drive away.  But the car park has been closed by the landowner, due to fly tippers, and we couldn't find anywhere else to park nearby.

Instead, we noticed as we drove past, a little plantation called Bolton Muir Woods, and were able to park and take a walk.  Subsequent research on Google has found information.  This is a long standing plantation, with many non native trees planted for forestry purposes, but which has now been divided into small plots by Woodlands.co.uk (you may have seen their adverts on the side of a road near you), and sold on.  Many of the new owners are attempting to improve the plantation, replacing non native species with native trees, which is lovely to see.  Though there are articles in the local press regarding controversial applications for planning permission for huts, which someone regarded as potentially "holiday camp by stealth".

Anyway, we had a pleasant little meander.  No rain, and in fact, quite a lot of blue sky (see extra) and sunshine, though it did cloud over latterly.  Lots of bird song, plenty of plant variety, some very skittish butterflies.  It really felt like spring.
