The Fairy Mound

There are many "fairy" mounds dotted around the Irish countryside.
Often a solitary hawthorn will be growing in or around it, left untouched even by modern farming as it is still a superstition that it might bring misfortune to whoever were to cut it down.
These mounds mostly contain nothing and are considered to be probably the remnants of an enclosure for cattle or a dwelling.
Over time the mounds tend to flatten down, due to natural erosion by weather and livestock.
I have tried to give this mound a ghostly atmosphere so the viewer may well believe the tree is magic and the mound is inhabited by wee folk!
