White-throated dipper (European dipper) chick

(Cinclus cinclus)
Did you know that this bird is Norway's national bird?

The dipper is closely associated with fast running rivers and streams.  It often perches bobbing with its short tail uplifted on the rocks round which the water swirls and tumbles.

It acquired its name from these sudden dips, not from its diving habit, though it dives as well as walks into the water.

This wee one stood for ages on this rock then ventured into the water diving under searching for aquatic invertebrates.  There were two chicks the day I managed to get this photo but I couldn't get the two of them on the same rock.

Dippers lifespan is approx 8 years.

I am full of useless information :)
