A Day In The Life

Memorial Day

Today’s a holiday here in the US. A day for remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our country. My father and his two brothers fought in WWII and the youngest brother, Robert, died in battle aboard a Navy ship in the Pacific. He was only 18 • It’s a day of parades in every community no matter how great or small; high school marching bands; school children singing “It’s a Grand Ol’ Flag”; placing flowers on loved ones graves is a tradition too, distinguishing veterans with small flags; there’s also cookouts and picnics with our favorite summer foods. Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, but here in the northeast it’s anything but. A chilly and rainy day will cancel or bring most festivities inside • It’s also my dear Mom’s birthday! She would have been 93 years old today. Happy Birthday, Mary Lou :)
