The wait is over!

This is what the brood X cicadas have been waiting for, for the past 17 years: a brief moment of bliss ;). The three frames were captured in the space of about 10 seconds, with my phone, walking from one golf fairway to the next :) 

The female will now carry her 500-some eggs up into the trees, where they’ll hatch, fall to the ground, and then bury themselves for the next 17 years. The female has just a few days left to live at this point.
