Tree

In the main shopping street in Kirkwall, this old tree now has a steel support.
It was voted 'tree of the year' in 2017.

A 200-year-old sycamore that owes its existence to Napoleon has been named Scotland’s “Tree of the Year”.
The “Big Tree” in Kirkwall, Orkney, was planted around 1815 by a landowner who made his fortune during the Napoleonic Wars.
Once a feature of a fine walled garden, the tree now stands in the main shopping street where the much-loved landmark has been used as a meeting place by generations of Orcadians.
The 30ft sycamore beat five other contenders to be named Scotland’s Tree of the Year 2017.  The Times
