40th anniversary

An event to celebrate Greece’s 40th anniversary of being part of the European Union, held at Zappeion Hall in Athens (which I’ve blipped before). I came across this on my evening walk and stopped to watch what was happening. These dignitaries arrived just before the start time of 7pm and I’d watched cars come and go, many followed by plain clothes police in motor bikes. It was fascinating watching - the police travelling with the dignitaries were clearly experts at leaping out of the cars before they’d completely stopped. There was a policeman coordinating the movement of the cars. He was stressed, shouting at everyone, trying to coordinate where cars should park. An entertaining 30 minutes, but disappointing to see a lack of women attending. I then wandered to Syntagma Square where there was a huge rally with speakers and singing - a socialist rally I think. No police in sight - they were too busy at the other event.
Marking done, admin done, Tuesday’s lecture ready enough. I’ve taken tomorrow off work and Monday is a bank holiday!
