Devil's Coach Horse Beetle

I noticed what seemed like an overlarge ant, or termite on a path.
On closer examination, it was an insect I'd not seen before.
My search came up with an insect well known in Europe, much less so here in North America.
I love the name "Devil's Coach Horse",
The folks who made the "Starship Troopers" movie certainly could have used these 1 inch (2.5cm) critters as models for the scary aliens!
