The Captain

I realised today that I have more regular contact with my fellow Blippers than my family! So after I phoned my mother I decided to show you my rather disreputable Great Grandfather and one of his families (mine).

He was the Captain of the clippers that used to ply trade between England and Australia, left that job to captain a paddle steamer on the Murray River.

A search through various records revealed he probably left behind a family in England and also another one in Australia to marry my Great Grandmother. My grandmother is the young lady on the the far right of the photograph, and never knew of her father’s “colourful” life.
