The Piece Box is Mary’s new venture that opened yesterday in Dervaig. The menu includes lovely looking sourdough bread, cakes, sausage rolls and salad. Her partner Jamie is a fisherman and will provide fresh shellfish. His old fishing waterproofs provided the yellow for their all weather bunting!
I hadn’t expected to really go there much being gluten and dairy free, but decided to get some cake for the workers in the fank. It all looks delicious. And they all enjoyed their blueberry pistachio cake and chocolate brownie with their cup of tea earlier.
Isle of Mull Oysters have opened an Honesty box too down at Croig which is great. I am sure it will do well for them. Their sign will do as a blip for another day!
12 hours on and the fank work isn’t finished yet. But at least it has stayed mainly dry. I’m poised to feed them when they’ve finished.
For those of you who don’t know what a piece is, it’s a Scots word for food that you would take with you, whether it was a hunk of bread or a piece of cold porridge or laterally a sandwich. You’d take it with you to work in the fields or as children out to play.
