Book Club

Luckily only 6 could make it today which meant we would meet indoors. It was raining and the Village Hall was on standby in case there were more than 6 of us. This month's book was This Boy about the childhood of Labour MP Alan Johnson which generated a lot of discussion about the standard of our own homes in the and  1950s and 1960s. Interestingly one of our group is American and it was obvious that her childhood standard of living was a lot better than ours. Her home had a dishwasher when the rest if us were still remembering that washing machines were a luxury with twin tubs and mangles. Certainly none of us had a dishwasher. The book was easy to read and interesting which was a welcome change from last months incomprehensible book.
The other books have been devoured by me in the month.  Three crime and one about an early detective shows my genre of choice . I enjoyed the Wallander books  and Maggie O'Farrell wove a delightful and credible tale of  the possible short life of Shakespeare son whose name was Hamnlet.  I'm reading Wallander in order.
