Glen Etive

Having looked at several forecasts last night we agreed to have a lie in and set off after brunch, as the weather was set to improve massively after 12. Hmm, at 12 it was still raining so we stopped off at the visitor centre, which had in excellent exhibition about the Scottish Mountaineering Club, women in mountaineering, SAIS and mountain Rescue. Best though was an acrylic 3D map of the area which I could’ve looked at a lot longer.

We dropped off a car a bit further along the A82 and then drove down the infamous Glen Etive road, which was as promised, a delight. My blip however is misleading as the sun only broke through for a few minutes! We did see several red deer though and even if rhododendrons are invasive, they are providing a beautiful colour to the mountainsides at the moment, along with bluebells and lots of orchids.

The wind was biting at Loch Etive so we didn’t stop long before driving back and parking at Dalness to take the Lairig Gartain trail. We almost turned back at the first river crossing which was challenging - 2 small dogs complicating matters. The extra shows the ‘atmospheric’ view from a bit higher up. (It was raining again). It did eventually stop however, just before the col, and we all agreed that despite the rain, it was an enjoyable walk.

Mountains are great levellers. All who stand before a mountain are treated the same, be they rich, poor, strong, weak, old or young. - Ronnie Roger, Glencoe MRT

PS thanks for the love shown yesterday’s Glenfinnan Viaduct. I’m sorry I’ve not had a chance to reply tonight.
