Old friends

An early trip to the market (pie!) was necessitated by having a date up at the NMS with CanCarrier and Sands (formerly of this parish) plus CC's friend Karen, in order to see the Galloway Hoard. It was a great exhibition - a lot of the hoard is still being investigated, but there were a few select pieces on display (2nd extra - the hoard is mostly silver but there's some gold!) and some great photos and explanations (1st extra - Eggbreht!). Most intriguing of all was the vessel buried at the heart of the hoard, wrapped in three layers of textile and containing all sorts of intriguing items.

But before we visited The Hoard, I asked that we should pop down the stair and say hello to an old friend! The lioness looking as good as ever. When I said that it was possible the 'locals' in Cramond had tipped her into the river when the Romans left, CC made the acute observation that it would have been along the lines of the statue of Colston being tipped into the river in Bristol recently. :-)
