Long Crendon

Today's blip shows the Church and the Court House at Long Crendon.

We were on a National Garden Scheme visit which included 5 very different gardens. Interesting but spread out across a very large village. We did find the one serving teas and cake, very welcome on such a hot afternoon (and a chance to catch the score, England 1 Croatia 0).

From the national Trust - the Medieval courthouse.
The courthouse is a fine example of an early fifteenth-century timber-frame construction, set in an idyllic village. The ground floor (now tenanted) was the village poor house.
The courthouse was the base for parish activities for four hundred years and was the venue for the annual manorial court which dealt with tithes and crimes such as selling bad fish, brewing without a licence, or overcharging customers.
