Just imagine all the feet that have passed through this doorway, wearing it down with their footsteps. Roman feet, and I don't suppose they trod lightly... not judging by the "Roman soldiers", whose marching reverberated up and down the narrow streets of our Catalan village every Easter!

But just imagine...

I packed up the tent etc and had a quick look around Haltwhistle, the geographical centre of Britain supposedly, before arriving at Housesteads, a Roman Fort on Hadrian's Wall. I'm not a great one for museums, and the Housesteads one was small thankfully, but I love ruins and there was a lot to look and wonder at...
